PANGASINAN, Philippines — Filipinos celebrated a new musical festival Monday at a beach resort.
The “Music Festival of the Filipinas” took place in Palawan, with more than 500 artists from all over the country, including rockers the Black Eyed Peas and pop star Kasey Kahlo.
The theme of the event is “Love, Joy, and Harmony.”
The music event was attended by local and international artists and producers, and is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people to the resort city of Palawan.
The event has drawn criticism in the past, but it was a huge hit in the Philippines.
More than two years ago, the Philippine government banned music festivals in a bid to curb music piracy.
The government has since lifted the ban, but many musicians have been unable to return home.
The Philippines has been ranked as the world’s second-worst music-consuming country by the music industry trade body IFPI, which says the country is losing $10 billion a year in revenue due to piracy.More:
